About the Attorney

Josh Johnson is a Denver-based defense attorney who handles criminal cases and related matters throughout the state of Colorado. He has successfully defended clients accused of crimes in Colorado state and municipal courts. He has won numerous acquittals at jury trials, and has helped create new law benefitting his clients in the Colorado Court of Appeals. In addition to his private clients, Mr. Johnson has handled criminal matters as court appointed counsel for clients in various Colorado courts and jurisdictions.

Mr. Johnson began his legal career in the federal district courthouse in Brooklyn, New York, as a law clerk to a United States magistrate judge. He then worked as an associate attorney at Pepper Hamilton, LLP, in Philadelphia, where he defended Fortune 500 clients in more than 100 product liability lawsuits in state and federal courts.

At Pepper Hamilton, in addition to his civil law practice, Mr. Johnson was also a member of a group of attorneys who worked to found the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, a non-profit legal clinic devoted to overturning wrongful criminal convictions.

Prior to attending law school Mr. Johnson worked as a print journalist, researching and writing articles for national publications including the New York Times, Esquire, and Rolling Stone. A resident of New York City on September 11, 2001, he shared a national journalism award with a team of journalists for his coverage of the terrorist attacks and their lingering effects on the city.

After obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Mr. Johnson spent three years as a volunteer with the United States Peace Corps in Guinea, West Africa.
